A Third Act
@ SULK Chicago
525 S Dearborn St, APT 209, Chicago, IL 60605
Opening Saturday, June 1st, from 7PM - 10PM
On view through Sunday, June 30th
Sulk Chicago is excited to announce the opening of “A Third Act,” an exhibition by artists Justice Apple and Mac Pierce. The show will premiere on June 1, 2024, with an opening reception from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Sulk Chicago, located at 525 S Dearborn St. #209.
“A Third Act” explores the implications of AI image generation and deepfake technologies, a growing trend in the contemporary art market. Using nudifying apps, Apple and Pierce challenge viewers to reconsider the boundaries of reality and artifice. The exhibition features composite images created by photographing the artists in full-body morph suits within detailed, hand-made sets, then altered by AI to produce uncanny, fabricated bodies.
“New technologies are rapidly adopted for art and controversial uses. AI tools for deepfaking can create non-consensual pornography by mapping nude bodies onto clothed individuals. In ‘A Third Act,’ we use these tools in our art, photographing ourselves in morph suits to create images that force viewers to question what is real and what is fake.”
