The 34th Onion City Experimental Film Festival Begins April 4th, 2024
The Onion City Experimental Film Festival, voted one of the top five “coolest” experimental or underground film festivals in the world in a poll conducted by Moviemaker Magazine, is one of the premiere international festivals exclusively showcasing experimental film, video, and expanded cinema. Onion City will present 9 competition programs and four special events in person from April 4-7 and virtually from April 8-14.
Special programs this year include the Opening Night screening of Chantal Akerman’s newly restored TOUTE UNE NUIT (1982), presented in partnership with Cine-File on Thursday, April 4 at the Gene Siskel Film Center (1640 N. State St.); a program of expanded cinema [WE DON’T KNOW YET} WHAT CINEMA CAN DO: A NIGHT OF LIVE SOUND AND MOVING IMAGES on Friday April 5 at Public Works Gallery (2141 W. North Ave.) in partnership with Center for Concrete and Abstract Machines; a retrospective screening LEFT HANDED MEMORIES: THE FILMS OF SHELLIE FLEMING in partnership with the Chicago Film Society on April 6 at Chicago Filmmakers (1326 W. Hollywood Ave.); and on April 7 at Chicago Filmmakers a retrospective program TOM RUBNITZ: COMMUNITY DRAG THEATER, with co-presenters Nightingale Projects and Video Data Bank.
