Emerging from a multichromatic chiaroscuro, these saintly figures are reduced to forms. They are mere icons reminiscent of ancient idols like the Phi and Psy of the Mycenaeans, bridging Catholicism to its pagan origins. Through craftsmanship, artisans encode cosmological beliefs into tangible forms, imbuing them with symbolic meaning and spiritual significance. In Nichos these saints, in their abstracted forms, serve as a reminder of how materiality is linked to one’s understanding of the stars and universe; their niches become a connection to the turbulent, electric, and colorful time of creation.
