Judge: Gretchen Jankowski
“The world is beautiful but not sayable. That is why we need art”
Charles Simic (US Poet Laureate and Oak Parker)
What memory of a feeling from a daydreaming, circles inside our minds and can only be freed through the portal of abstract art?
In this open-call exhibition, artists demonstrate their understanding of the visual language of shape, form, color, texture and line, evoking emotional response, the beauty of the unsayable without the dependence of representational reference.
– An online exhibition of works will be hosted on OPAL’s website.
Judge’s selections for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place, cash awards.
About The Judge:
Gretchen Jankowski was born in Fort Wayne Indiana. I was raised by artistic parents in Oak Park, Illinois. My mother was a graphic designer and educator who now devotes her time to weaving, and my father is an architect. I currently have a home and studio in Forest Park, Illinois. I have a BFA in Studio Arts from Columbia College Chicago and a MFA in Printmaking from California State University, Long Beach. I currently teach printmaking in the fine arts program full-time at Governors State University. My work pushes the boundaries of classic relief printmaking. I incorporate my prints in large scale mixed media pieces and soft sculptures.
