Animal fiero y tierno, la obra clásica de la gran poeta afroantillana, Ángela María Dávila, es uno de los poemarios más importantes en la historia de la literatura puertorriqueña. El lunes 15 de abril, será interpretado por primera vez de forma bilingüe en una presentación histórica llevada acabo por el actor Aurelio “Yeyo” Lima Dávila, hijo de la poeta, junto con una lectura de las traducciones realizadas por el poeta y traductor Roque Raquel Salas Rivera. Fierce and Tender Animal, the classic collection by the great Afro-Antillean poet, Ángela María Dávila, is one of the most important poetry books in the history of Puerto Rican literature. On Monday, April 15, it will be performed bilingually for the first time in a historic presentation carried out by the actor Aurelio “Yeyo” Lima Dávila, her son, along with a reading of translations by the poet and translator Roque Raquel Salas Rivera. Don’t miss this unprecedented event full of fierce tenderness.
Roque Raquel Salas Rivera (Mayagüez, 1985) es un poeta, editor y traductor. Sus reconocimientos incluyen el nombramiento como Poeta Laureado de la ciudad de Filadelfia, el Premio Nuevas Voces y el inaugural Premio Ambroggio. Cuenta con seis poemarios. Es el editor de las antologías Puerto Rico en mi corazón (Anomalous Press, 2019) y La piel del arrecife: Antología de poesía trans puertorriqueña (La Impresora & Atarraya Cartonera, 2023). Entre sus traducciones, cuenta con The Rust of History (Circumference Press, 2022), una selección de la obra poética de su abuelo Sotero Rivera Avilés, y The Book of Conjurations de la poeta Irizelma Robles. Al presente escribe un poema épico trans titulado Algarabía, que será publicado en el 2025 por Graywolf Press.
Roque Raquel Salas Rivera (he/they) is a Puerto Rican poet and translator of trans experience born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. His honors include being named Poet Laureate of Philadelphia, the Premio Nuevas Voces, a Lambda Literary Award, and the inaugural Ambroggio Prize. He is the author of six poetry books, and the editor of the anthologies Puerto Rico en mi corazón (Anomalous Press, 2019) and La piel del arrecife: Antología de poesía trans puertorriqueña (La Impresora & Atarraya Cartonera, 2023). His translations include The Rust of History (Circumference Press, 2022), a selection of the poetry by his grandfather Sotero Rivera Avilés, longlisted for the Pen Award for Poetry in Translation and ALTA’s National Translation Award, and The Book of Conjurations by Irizelma Robles, winner of the Sundial Literary Translation Award. His translation of Ada Limón’s poem dedicated to NASA’s Europa Clipper mission will be traveling to Jupiter’s moon in 2024. Roque lives, teaches, and creates in Puerto Rico. Accompanied by his cat, Pietri, he is currently working on the trans epic poem Algarabía, which will be published in 2025 by Graywolf Press.
Aurelio María Lima Dávila es un histrión (actor, declamador, clown, mimo) director, percusionista, compositor, artesano y brujo, Boricua. Desde la pura niñez se inicia en la actividad teatral. Comienza estudios de clown en su adolescencia y, en esa época, comienza a co-fundadar agrupaciones teatrales. Cursa estudios en el Dpto. de Drama de la UPR, de Borikén, mientras participa de seminarios y talleres teatrales, con distint@s Maestr@s internacionales. Co-fundador del Teatro Nacional Yerba Bruja en el 1989 (en Borikén), trabaja desarrollando el teatro físico, el clown, la pantomima moderna y el teatro popular en las puestas en escena. Ha participado en festivales de teatro y filmaciones internacionales. Artista de espíritu revolucionario, actualmente, es Director Artístico de Laboratorio Teatral de PanConMiel.
Aurelio María Lima Dávila is a Boricua histrión (actor, declamador, clown, mime), director, percussionist, composer, artesano, and brujo. He began his theatrical activities in early childhood. In his adolescence, he commenced his clown studies, and began co-founding theater groups. He studied at the University of Puerto Rico’s Drama Department, in Borikén, while participating in theater seminars and workshops, with different international teachers. Co-founder of the Yerba Bruja National Theater in 1989 (in Borikén), he works developing physical theater, clowning, modern pantomime, and popular theater on the stage. He has participated in international theater festivals and films. An artist with a revolutionary spirit, he is currently the Artistic Director of the PanConMiel Theater Laboratory.
