Painting primarily on antique windows, Mark’s work invites you to peek inside to a happier time and place, where you feel nostalgia and wonder, taking a break from the chaos of today’s world. Through his work, Mark brings back “a few of his favorite things”, recalling memories of chewing up boxes of candy, playing video games, sneaking off to drink a beer and smoke a cigarette, watching a scary movie, and the comfort of a childhood picture book.
Mark traverses the city to find his windows, and lets them speak to him. He builds layers of shape and color on the glass, reexamining iconic imagery and nostalgic eras, consistently brightening the faces of those seeing the glossy, framed results.
Mark holds a BA from Columbia College Chicago and a MFA from The Art Institute of Chicago. He has built a successful brand, Standing Passengers Inc., producing independent films and holding physical space through a Coffee Shop/Art Gallery in the West Town neighborhood.
