Mitch Clark and John Upchurch: Conjecture
@ Oliva Gallery
3816 W Armitage Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Opening Friday, March 1st, from 5PM - 9PM
On view through Saturday, March 30th
Embark on a journey of conjecture with Mitch Clark and John Upchurch at the Oliva Gallery.
Mitch Clark’s ephemeral sculptures, delicately crafted from found, organic, and composed materials such as wire, paper, and thread, will transport you to dreamlike landscapes. Captured through the lens in the studio, these imaginative works feature hovering forms and unexpected reflections.
John Upchurch’s sculptural objects, born from discarded materials, industrial relics, and intriguing hardware, invite you to ponder the transformative power of reconfiguration. The hopeful notion that almost anything can become something new, beautiful, and even humorous is embedded in Upchurch’s creations. Each piece exudes joy, poetry, and the possibility of perceiving anew.
Don’t miss the anthropomorphic charm of Upchurch’s sculptures, seemingly in the midst of something dynamic, active, and alive. Easily anthropomorphized, the sculptures transmit possibility; many seem in the midst of something dynamic, active, and alive, and Upchurch’s titles tell us what: They Billow, Mingle, Comment, and Reckon.
Join us for an evening of art, exploration, and the delightful embrace of conjecture.
