About the Artist: Gary Schirmer has been a working artist for forty years and a studio-art educator at the college level for 30 years at the College of DuPage and Joliet Junior College in the subjects of drawing, life drawing, painting, photography, and printmaking. He has, as well, taught as a lecturer in Art Appreciation at both colleges. As a professional commercial artist, illustrator, scenic painter, and fabricator, he has worked in the film, television, and commercial photography industries. For twenty years, he has been a regular freelance scenic artist with Chicago’s PBS station, WTTW.
In his production as a Fine Artist, including painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography, he has worked for some time in primarily a representational / narrative style, often commenting on social and psychological perspectives relative to human relations, historical reference, and the post-modern condition. Most recently, he has been experimenting with various mediums and mixed mediums in a more formal and non-representational aesthetic.
