Saturday Studio: Claudel and Movement

Does exploring the galleries ever make you want to dance? Join artists Ellie Houlihan and Ione Sanders for a session of guided improvisational movement inspired by the works of Camille Claudel.
In an attempt to embody the shapes and textures of Claudel’s sculptures, we will work together to invent our own phrases of movement. First, we will spend time in the exhibition. Then, we will warm up before translating what was taken from the show into dance through individual and collaborative exercises.
This is a beginner-friendly workshop. Participants will be encouraged to set their own limits and move in whatever way is most comfortable for them.
about the facilitators
Ellie Houlihan is a writer, dancer, and choreographer from Tinley Park, Illinois. She received a BA in political humanities from Sciences Po in Reims, France and a BA in comparative literature and society from Columbia University. Ellie is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in performance studies at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Trained in ballet and modern techniques, Ellie loves sharing the joy of improvisational dance with movers of all experience and ability levels.
Ione Sanders is an educator, visual artist, and performer in Chicago, IL. Her creative practices center around play, improvisation, and emergence, and range from printmaking and tattooing to improvisational dance and mechanical tinkering.
