Katie Kiesewetter: Unproductive Time: Closing Reception
@ Lillstreet Art Center
4401 N Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL, 60640
Opening Wednesday, January 31st, from 5PM - 7PM
On view through Wednesday, January 31st
Katie Kiesewetter presents Unproductive Time, a new exhibition at Lillstreet Art Center. Join us for the closing reception and an Artist Talk with Kiesewetter on January 31 at 5PM in room 300 on the third floor.
Unproductive Time is a collection of artist’s books, zines, and installation art that document the artist’s use of time. Reacting to her overwhelming schedule and the constant pressure to be working, or “in production,” much of the exhibition’s content is inspired by the artist’s struggle to balance daily obligations with pursuits of pleasure and idleness. For her, this toxic imbalance often results in the development of mania, hyper-fixation, and avoidance tactics. Unproductive Time examines the realities of being part of a capitalist society in which our time does not always belong to us, causing an overwhelming desire to disconnect or shut down
