Tonal Simmons will be guiding us through a writing journey!
“Notes to Self” is a workshop designed for self-reflection and community care. In a world where we can often be our harshest critics, this session aims to foster a moment of introspection and collective support. Tonal’s “Mirrors” project stems from their own personal experiences of mirror avoidance due to how they felt about themself and their life, leading to a profoundly negative impact on mental wellness and interpersonal relationships.
Stats reveal that 71% of Black trans and non-binary youth grapple with major depressive disorders, shedding light on the urgent need for comprehensive mental health care. Additionally, Black women encounter barriers in accurate diagnosis and sufficient support, underscoring systemic challenges within the healthcare system.

*WHAT TO EXPECT FROM “NOTES TO SELF”
In this workshop, folks will have the opportunity to engage in reflective writing exercises, providing an outlet for internal self-doubt and pain. The culmination of our collective voices will be channeled into a collaborative art project, creating a tangible representation of resilience and shared strength. Please bring a journal, notebook, or your phone to capture your thoughts as personal insights may arise.
