Family Day: Play with Clay!
@ Smart Museum of Art, The University of Chicago
5550 S Greenwood Ave, Chicago, IL 60637
Opening Saturday, December 9th, from 1PM - 4PM
With guest artist Janiece Maddox
Drop by the Smart Museum of Art for a joyful journey of “clayful” activity.
During this monthly Family Day, create clay slabs, make tile relief sculptures, and collaborate at our one-of-a-kind clay-play table. Led by guest artist Janiece Maddox, the afternoon art activities are inspired by works on display in Ruth Duckworth: Life as a Unity.
Plus, from 2–3 pm, join our partners from the Chicago Public Library for an interactive and artistic Destination Discover Story Time.
FREE, drop-in. Art-making supplies and other materials are provided. Family programs are best for kids 4–12, but all ages are welcomed! Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
About the guest artist
Janiece Maddox (b. 1998, Davenport, IA) is an interdisciplinary ceramic artist who earned her BFA in ceramics from the University of Iowa in 2022. She is currently based in Chicago, IL where she keeps a studio practice as well as works as a ceramics educator throughout the Chicago area. Her work addresses concepts of her identity and reality by contemplating the influence societal institutions have on the way we think.
