In Issue III of the award winning Pigment Magazine we tackled the question of what the public square of the future might look like. In the article we cited the many sculptures that were being done by Black artists across the world including the Ida B. Wells Monument by Richard Hunt in Chicago’s Bronzeville.
This June the Mellon Foundation announced a grant of $6.8 million to The City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) to support the Chicago Monuments Project (CMP) and citywide community-generated commemorative initiatives and installations. Funding from the Mellon Foundation will allow for the implementation of new Chicago monuments, including the Chicago
Angela Tate, curator at the National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC), joins us for a conversation on how some of these new projects are being implemented in Chicago. In partnership with the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, a Smithsonian affiliate.
