Be part of our First Annual SAI Fundraiser event and help us to shape the future of South Asian Arts. SAI is honored to have iconic musician, DJ and composer, Karsh Kale lead the charge for SAI’s very first Fundraiser event. Karsh is bringing rare movie screening of the documentary film ‘Rock, Disco, Tabla : The Karsh Kale Effect’ followed by a conversation and Q&A. Directly following the film screening and discussion, appetizers and drinks will be served before a special DJ set & live tabla performance by Karsh to close out the evening.

7:00 PM: Film Screening & Conversation: “Rock, Disco, Tabla : The Karsh Kale Effect” (Directed by Shakti Hasija. 2019. 78 Min.) A musical documentary film on the renowned musician, record producer, songwriter, film composer and DJ, Karsh Kale, featuring concert and studio footage from around the world and video diaries of his close collaborators over the years including Zakir Hussain, Anoushka Shankar, Bill Laswell, Kirk Douglas of The Roots and more. Produced by musician and composer Salim Merchant of Salim-Sulaiman Bollywood music fame.
9:45 PM: DJ & Tabla Live Performance.
Karsh Kale Bio: The word prolific barely begins to describe Karsh Kale’s storied career. The British-born, New York City-raised producer and multi-instrumentalist of Indian heritage has spent the last two decades zigzagging the world, headlining major festivals and spinning records at the White House for Barack Obama.
Described by Billboard Magazine as a “visionary composer and producer”, Karsh Kale is one of global music’s brightest stars. In the past 20 years as a solo recording artist, producer, composer, live performer and DJ, Karsh has set the world of electronic fusion on fire and has helped to create a genre of new music and culture that continues to influence an entire generation. His body of work has been cause for fans and critics alike to claim Kale as a pioneer and a trail blazer, not only opening doors for his own career but for an entire scene to emerge in the world of electronica and fusion music.
Karsh Kale has also developed a reputation as a genre bending collaborator and a world renowned tabla player and musician, exploring the worlds of electronica, Indian classical music, rock, jazz fusion and hip hop which has led him to work with some of the most renowned artists from around the globe including Herbie Hancock, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, and Sting among many others. He formed a supergroup with Zakir Hussain, Sultan Khan, Bill Laswell, MIDIval Punditz under the name Tabla Beat Science who toured the world and released several albums. Kale also released a dozen solo albums and a collaborative album, ‘Breathing Under Water’ with sitarist and longtime friend Anoushka Shankar. In 2019 Kale composed music for the award winning film Gully Boy. Karsh has put together various sessions for Coke Studios and you can hear why Cannes Film Award-winning show The Dewarists included Kale in its docu-travelogue debut seasons as well. Kale continues to reinvent his ever-evolving sound and has established himself as one of the worlds most sought after artists.
