Earth Matters, a sculpture, is designed as a response to our critical era when global waste production and climate change present an existential threat to humans and nonhumans alike. It offers an opportunity to call attention to waste issues through art, dialogue, and participation.
The sculpture project addresses the community-expressed desire to see more action taken by the local authorities to provide efficient and sustainable ways to curtail the number of reusable items that end up in landfill. It seeks to engage artmaking processes with bioplastics derived from organic waste, given that little attention has been paid to synthetic art materials’ negative ecological impact in schools, community centers, and homes.
Earth Matters is co-sponsored by the North River Commission and Threewalls.
