How to Support Students Facing Trauma: Self-Taught Art and Other Tools
Calling K–12 educators of all subjects! Join Intuit on Saturday, May 20, 10 a.m.–2 p.m., for a one-day professional development session at which Intuit will host a panel discussion focused on trauma-informed practices, followed by a hands-on art making activity and a preview of the Teacher Fellowship Program Student Exhibition.
How to Support Students Facing Trauma: Self-Taught Art and Other Tools is an opportunity for Chicago Public Schools teachers and Chicagoland teachers and art educators. The goals of the session are to 1) engage in discussion about supporting students through trauma; 2) identify trauma, the social-emotional needs of students, and just and informative solutions to support students; and 3) explore interventions to support students in the classroom.
The panel will delve into how trauma shows up in the classroom, the relationship between art making and mental health, and classroom strategies and interventions.
How to Support Students Facing Trauma: Self-Taught Art and Other Tools will be an in-person panel at Intuit, and the discussion will conclude with a Q&A with the panelists. Light refreshments will be available before (10–10:30 a.m.) and lunch will be provided after (11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.) the panel. Following lunch, participants will create plushies using felt and basic sewing techniques. Intuit welcomes and encourages participants to network at and attend the Teacher Fellowship Program Student Exhibition, which opens after the session concludes that day.
