“How, in our modern world, can we find our way to understand the earth as a gift again, to make our relations with the world sacred again?”
~ Robin Wall Kimmerer, from “Braiding Sweetgrass; Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teaching of Plants”
Curated by Sherri Denault
The ghostly, dreamlike, floating images by Joanne Aono, the photograms utilizing plant fossils and animal bones, and compositions on glass by Christine Forni, and the mixed media pieces inspired by microscopic cellular structures, or macroscopic images of Earth’s terrain by Deanna Krueger, come together in the Visual Arts Gallery to find a way back to the Sacred Earth. This art is inspired by agriculture, herbalism, preservation, and the notion that all life is intertwined, and it investigates the ordinary to find the fascinating, the present moment to reveal the long distant past, and mixed media materials to embody universal experience.
Exhibition Dates: March 8 – April 7, 2023
