Kevin Beasley: A View of a Landscape, Book and Record Release
@ Logan Center for the Arts
Performance Penthouse, 9th floor, 915 E 60TH ST
Opening Saturday, March 11th, from 4PM - 7PM
Join us for a launch event featuring a discussion from 4-5 PM with Beasley, Adrienne Edwards (curator at the Whitney Museum and book contributor), and Karsten Lund (curator at the Ren and editor of the book), followed by a listening session of the double LP at 5:30 PM, live-mixed by Beasley.
Kevin Beasleyâs new publication from the Renaissance Society, A View of a Landscape, pairs a 300-page book and double LP, conceived as equal elements and designed together.
An expansive look at Beasleyâs work in sculpture, sound, and performance, the book features a wide array of images and new essays by nine writers, including Andy Battaglia, Daphne A. Brooks, Adrienne Edwards, Leon Finley, Mark Godfrey, Thomas J. Lax, Ralph Lemon & Okwui Okpokwasili, Tiona Nekkia McClodden, and Fred Moten.
The double LP features all new tracks by musicians from Beasleyâs close creative circles, including Laurel Halo, Jlin, Eli Keszler, LâRain, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Kelsey Lu, Jason Moran, Moor Mother, SCRAAATCH, and others. Each track is uniquely their own but integrates samples from Beasleyâs recordings of a cotton gin motor, extending his larger project collaboratively.
