ENGAGE Projects is excited to announce our upcoming group show Blue Space featuring work by Nick Albertson, Andrew Bearnot, Phyllis Bramson, Diane Christiansen, Chris Cosnowski, Rob Fischer, Cameron Gainer, Chris Larson, Sharon Louden, Morgan, Jean Shin, Edra Soto, and Adam Daley Wilson. Centering the color blue as a common thread among the works, this primary color is a symbol of calm, health, trust, and natural environments. Join us for the opening reception Friday, March 3rd, 5:30 – 8:00 PM!
Permeating the studies of art, history, and science, the color blue has been a source of inspiration for as long as humans have perceived it; from Picasso’s Blue Period to the mining of lazurite for pigment, this azury hue has historically been of high market value. The ubiquitous color is infamously evasive—water is only blue if it is part of a larger body, the sky is intangible to the human hand, blood is only blue under the skin, shadows are only present in the absence of something else. ENGAGE Projects has captured the uncapturable, filling the gallery with this elusive hue and delving into its effects on our minds. In fact, research suggests that the presence of blue has a calming effect on the body: a walk on the beach, a picnic under the periwinkle sky, a painting in your bedroom. Living with art can promote positive health outcomes and even evoke feelings of safety and trust. Take a deep dive into the gallery to discover the ways our artists have applied the color to their wide array of art practices.
