Monday Is Red-Orange: Music Through the Eyes of an Artist with Synesthesia
@ The Martin
2500 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60622
Opening Friday, February 17th, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Saturday, March 18th
Jess Brooks is an artist with Synesthesia.
Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which a sense crossover occurs in the brain. As music produces visual sensations for Brooks alongside the aural, her body of work depicts her unique visual experience of different songs and albums. This show features a selection of Brooks’ Synesthetic pieces showing her visual interpretations of music from Brad Mehldau, Emily King, Billie Eilish, Radiohead, Björk, and more.
From the artist:
“The goal of my work is to encourage people to reimagine the typical — to examine something normally experienced auditorily like music, and instead experience it visually. If you can open yourself to experiencing music visually, I believe you can open yourself to the idea that everyone around you sees the world uniquely. It is my goal to help create a world of deeper empathy and curiosity for the unique world each of us lives in.”
Join us on Friday February 17th from 6-9pm as we celebrate the opening of Jess’ solo exhibition! Entry is free. A card-only bar will be available for purchase.
