40 years ago, a film and video game electrified theaters and arcades across the world by taking audiences – for the first time – inside a computer game. Computing concepts were transformed in the public mind from abstractions into exciting, vivid illustrations of what cyberspace could be through pioneering computer generated imagery. Chicago Gamespace is pleased to present LIGHT CYCLES: 40 Years of TRON in Games and Film, an exhibition of TRON arcade, computer and console games. It begins with the first arcade game developed by a young team at Chicago’s Bally/Midway led by Bill Adams, Atish Ghosh, George Gomez, and highlights more than a dozen TRON multimedia pieces.
This exhibition is curated by Jonathan Kinkley and Tim Lapetino with research and curatorial assistance from Ethan Johnson. Generous loans provided by Logan Arcade.
