Ullrpaaaiiillllgggrrrrrhrhekoko
@ The Plan
600 N Albany Ave, Chicago, IL 60612
Opening Friday, January 13th, from 6PM - 10PM
On view through Sunday, February 12th
The Plan is excited to present its first exhibition of 2023, featuring new work by Sungho Bae, Jess Bass, Yumi Fukuda, Rob Sohmer, Jasmine Yeh, and Yue Xu. In “Ullrpaaaiiillllgggrrrrrhrhekoko”, each artist has selected an expression to enact. The artists consider assumed bodies, various emotions, and each other. The presented work includes sculpture, video, interactive performance and installation.
“The darkness of the opening reveals no movement, no indication of the inhabitant, other than breath and sound. The light off the snow is brighter now, and it softens the image in your binoculars. And then, a low sound, just rising to the level of comprehension, like a curl in the chest. A vibrato, a growl echoing off the smooth sided canyon walls.
Together, they cough, she [growls], she swallows, he [wails], they [howl] and he shivers. Something is living in there. Something, someone, is hidden beneath the surface.”
