Songpath is a compositionally guided listening hike intended to transform the soundscape of a public space into a musical experience. By deeply listening to the space and dissecting all of its various sonic elements, we will walk down a predetermined path together that has a sonic trajectory, stopping along the way to listen, in silence, to what is happening in the moment along that path. Led by composer and sound artist Ryan Ingebritsen, the Songpath has been a creative activity of his since 2010 where he led his first series of hikes in the Minnesota State Parks. Since then, he has developed hikes in state parks and locations across the Chicago area. This particular hike will explore the space in and around the bird sanctuary using the sounds made by the lake, the trees, and the birds themselves to reveal the hidden acoustic features of this picturesque and secluded part of Chicago’s north side.

IMPORTANT!
Participants will meet behind the Dock Cafe right across the parkway from Montrose Harbor.
