Katrina Andry: Unthinkable Renderings—An Appraisal
@ FLXST Contemporary
2251 S Michigan Ave, Suite 220, Chicago, IL 60616
Opening Saturday, April 2nd, from 4PM - 7PM
On view through Sunday, May 15th
A master printmaker, New Orleans-based artist NOLA native Katrina Andry makes her debut solo show “Unthinkable Renderings—an Appraisal” at FLXST Contemporary with a curated review of her work from the last five years to the present. Her practice is grounded in the socio-cultural politics of Black lives in the United States. She produces prints inspired by the family stories passed down to her and from oral histories that have circulated in the Black diaspora. She employs labor-intensive techniques to create the detailed color reduction woodblock prints, often taking over two months to bring one print into its total fruition.
The opening reception is on Saturday, April 2, from 4-7 pm, in the A-Side gallery. The show will run until May 15, 2022. This is Katrina’s first show as a represented artist by FLXST Contemporary. We are honored to represent her.
About the Artist
A native of New Orleans, LA, Katrina Andry received an MFA in printmaking in 2010. She currently lives and works in New Orleans where she maintains a studio. Katrina’s work is often in dialogue with the viewer, asking them to confront their own race and gender biases and to consider how it affects the quality of life of their communities writ large.
Katrina was listed in the “Art in Print” magazine as one of the top 50 printmakers and continues to show internationally. She has shown at the Hammonds House Museum (solo), Pensacola Museum of Art (solo), the Katonah Museum, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and other museums many of which have also acquired her work for the collections.
