A lightless room, overlooking the train yards. An electromagnet hums, trying to find the answer to a riddle it hasn’t come up with yet – “Hmmmmmm…”

A vortex of water being hungrily swallowed up by the pavement adjacent to the bus bench. A lightless room, a room with a convincing sticker of laminate flooring, which is a convincing reproduction of hardwood, which is a convincing rearticulation of a tree, which is a less convincing case for time.

“Hmmmmmmmmmmm,” the magnet continues to hum.

An orchid, hidden amongst the apples. A caesura so sure, you could taste it in the air. Like the dust that clings to your vocal cords before you can get the next phrase out.

No riddle yet, but the contours of an answer traced out in sand. “A practice in practice” etc. etc.

It seems we are waiting for the mailman to arrive, bearer of unfathomable tragedies and listless bureaucracy. Their parcels contain worlds unknown and the constellations of countless events; and yet the mailman remains faithfully unaware, sometimes only guessing what the ink spells beneath a folded piece of paper.

These words have traveled a long distance, those gestures greeted only by time – for the time being.

Return to the dust of this room, as I wait for my letters to come.
