Join us for a talk by William Camargo exploring archives, histories, and place as he discusses the impact of the history of photography on his work.
William Camargo is an arts educator, visual artist, and arts advocate born and raised in Anaheim, California. He holds an M.F.A from Claremont Graduate University and a BFA from Cal State Fullerton. His work is in response to found archives of a city through a historical art praxis that manifests as series-based artworks and strategies that address geographic places. He was a runner up of the 2021 Aperture Portfolio Prize and is the chair of the Cultural and Heritage Commission in the city of Anaheim William has held residencies at Project Art, the Chicago Artist Coalition, ACRE, at LA Summer held at Otis School of Art and Design, and at the Latinx Project, NYU. He has given lectures at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Gallery 400(Chicago), University of San Diego, Syracuse University, Stanford, among others. Additionally, his work has been shown at the Chicago Cultural Center, S.F Cameraworks, the Center for Photography at Woodstock, the University of Indianapolis(IN).
