Quiet, Cold
@ Jargon Projects
Opening Friday, April 2nd, at By appointment only
On view through Friday, June 4th
Jargon Projects is proud to present the group exhibition “Quiet, Cold” featuring work by Em Marie Davenport, Ella Rose Flood, Mary Griffin, Jacob Mendel, Walter Moodie, Sam Oh, and Ernestina Johanna Vasquez.
Coldness demands protection, places for shying away and putting up a guard, it involves mediation. It also calls for confrontation, for leaning in, and for adaptation. It is a vehicle for complicated physical and emotional states, equal parts active and reactive. Quietude similarly muffles and amplifies, represses and reveals. “Quiet, Cold” brings together the work of seven artists who approach temperatures and temperaments in various ways, whether through a detached handling of materials, a distancing from and obfuscation of subject matter, or the evocation of physical sensations. These ideas may for some works sit just atop the surface, concealing or obscuring alternative intentions; but for others, they lay at the core of the work’s creation, permeating silently outward, feeding off of one another and expanding slowly like ice.
