the cclouds is a graduate student-organized reading and artist talk series through UChicago. We seek to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and sharing of work—presenters construct conversations-through-objects. The series is supported by the University of Chicago English Department, the Humanities Division, and The Gray Center

Kelly Clare is a multidisciplinary poet and artist currently an MFA candidate in Sculpture at the University of Iowa. Her recent solo shows, Eating the Cloud (Public Space One, Iowa City) and ur local decoys (CSPS Hall, Cedar Rapids), explore the muddy confluence of digital, linguistic, and physical space. Her written work can be found and is forthcoming in Second Factory, TAGVVERK, APARTMENT, Pulpmouth and Hobart. She was a resident at the Vermont Studio Center in 2019.

Marcellus Armstrong is an interdisciplinary media-maker, event conductor, educator, grant writer, and occasional wedding DJ. Invested in the intersection of archives, Blackness, and material, he received his MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2017. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including at The Sculpture Center (Cleveland), Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Vernon Gardens (Los Angeles), Oolite Arts (Miami) and with Good Weather at SUNDAY Art Fair (London). He has realized projects with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Red Bull House of Art Detroit, and has been featured in the online publications of Arts.Black and Vice’s The Creator’s Project. In 2019, his first solo show, “Smoke Garments” was exhibited at Reyes Finn gallery in Detroit, Michigan. Marcellus is originally from the suburbs of Baltimore and currently resides in Philadelphia where he is a Program Manager for Scribe Video Center
