During this month’s screenings of OFF THE HIGHWAY LIKE ANOTHER DEER and Go Go, Boy! from Chicagoland Shorts Vol. 6, featured filmmakers Sofía Alfaro and Oriana Oppice join producer Rocío Santos in conversation, diving into their filmmaking process, philosophy, and future projects.

Sofía Alfaro is a Chicago-based video artist currently attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her practice focuses on teenage girlhood, queer bodies, and human-computer connection.

Oriana Oppice is an award-winning independent film and commercial director, writer, producer, and actor. Oppice tells stories of big things happening to little people, both in comedy and drama. She is committed to elevating the visibility of women in front of and behind the camera, and is the director of programming and communications for Women in Film Chicago. Oppice won two best director awards for her last film, Leia’s Army. Other award-winning films she has directed include Lobster fra Diavolo, Lost and Found, and Camp Belvidere.

Rocío Santos is host, producer, and curator at Domingos en Vocalo—Vocalo’s (91.1FM) Spanish-language programming that broadcasts on Sundays and specializes in Latin-alternative indie music, arts, and culture for the Latinx community.
