Myron Laban is best known for his brightly colored murals and his “Uplift” series, which features a figure on another figure’s shoulders. His recently completed murals around the city are a reminder that there is hope and that we can support one another. Mental health awareness is a big part of Myron’s motivation for creating his art and this solo exhibition is further exploration of that.
“Sitting With My Thoughts” is about self-reflection and reflection on the world around us. Myron views this body of work as being in a meditative state. He incorporates figures, organic shapes and floral backgrounds, resulting in one harmonious piece. The series evokes feelings from hope to despair while in quiet moments of reflection, amidst a world of chaos. Our ability to acknowledge what we go through, accept our feelings and evolve is what connects us all as humans and continues to be a driving theme in Myron’s work. “I think it relates to the whole spectrum of the human experience. This show is very human.” – Myron. Unlike his “Uplift” series, this exhibition is not necessarily meant to invoke hope in people but rather address all of the feelings we experience and how we can harness those feelings and move forward.
