Jane Addams and other social reformers used practical arts program to build community and inspire civic engagement, started with the first building constructed for the settlement house – The Butler Art Gallery. Join our Educators for a discussion focused on arts programs at the Hull-House Settlement and their connection to a democratic society. Guests will be able to participate by voting on which programs are explored—from the Hull-House Kilns to the Hull-House Players! Jane Addams and Hull-House co-founder, Ellen Gates Starr, believed in the cultural value of the arts in communities and civic spaces. How do the performing and visual arts reflect and enhance democracy in America today?
