Join the MoCP and photographer Akinbode Akinbiyi for a virtual sneak peek into his studio!
Berlin-based street photographer Akinbode Akinbiyi is known worldwide for his images depicting life in global cities, focusing primarily on everyday moments within rapidly changing urban environments and in Africa. In 2019, he was commissioned by the Chicago Architectural Biennial and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for a month-long residency in Homan Square in the Chicago neighborhood of North Lawndale, where he hosted photography workshops with students, activists, and community members. Akinbiyi took daily walks around the city, observing and photographing his surroundings, and resulting in the project, Easy Like Sunday Morning— North Lawndale (2019). These images were recently acquired by the MoCP.
Akinbode Akinbiyi’s images have been included in exhibitions around the world, including at documenta 14 (2017) in Athens and Kassel; the Philadelphia Museum of Art (2016); and Goethe-Institut Johannesburg, South Africa (2013-14); among many others.
