A Remote Student Symposium
The Feitler Center for Academic Inquiry is proud to present a remote student symposium on the theme of Materiality and Art, featuring presentations from undergraduate, masters, and PhD students.
The symposium is inspired by the Smart Museum of Art and Wrightwood 659 exhibition, “The Allure of Matter,” which coins the term “Material Art” to explore the use of unconventional or peculiar materials to create art that emphasizes the significance of a work’s material rather than an image or style. Examining materials like olives, burlap, and even memory, our student presenters demonstrate the new perspectives and meanings that can be revealed through an investigation of materiality.
