Opening Saturday, May 16th, from 6PM - 11:30PM
Anthony Lewellen is undoubtedly a household name in Chicago. It is impossible to omit his contributions when discussing the history of public art in Chicago. Also known as ANTCK, Anthony has been working on his craft and painting Chicago walls for over three decades. Illustrative design work, met with precision and thoughtful attention to detail, paired with his signature color palate all contribute to his highly recognizable aesthetic. This is Anthony’s second solo show at Chicago Truborn.
RETROSPECT is the act of and ability to look back and essentially understand who and what we are. This show is an experimental curated collection covering over a decade’s worth of compiled work. Pieces in this show were carefully selected to reflect the varied scope and interests, explorations, interconnected ideas and intensive process of this legendary Chicago artist.
This show will feature a sprawling body of work including; framed works on paper, process sketches as well as canvas originals, elements of mixed media and beyond. Expect to see some of your favorite series from the past as they make a reappearance in the context of Anthony’s career retrospective.
We *will* be practicing social distancing and complying with all safety protocols. Just as our previous show opened, so will this one…Safely and virtually. The link will be posted at 6 pm on show night and will be available to the entire world!!! Pour yourself a glass of your favorite art show beverage and zoom around the gallery as if you’re really there. Spend as much time as you’d like – you can even come back, time and time again. Each piece will have a direct link to purchase online. It’s safe and SO easy to use.
Two in store murals will also be revealed at 6 pm opening night and will be accessible to everyone who walks by. Our beautiful storefront windows provide the perfect opportunity to share these installations, safely, with anyone who walks or drives by!
We are so grateful your continued support in this unprecedented time. Our small business – along with all of our full time artists – need and appreciate you now more than ever. Thank you for your excitement and we look forward to breaking barriers and making the best out of a not ideal situation. The show MUST go on!!!
