Playback: The Chicago Student Filmmaker Summit is a two-day event that unites student filmmakers from across the Chicago land area. The summit offers students the opportunity to showcase their work, network with fellow creators, and learn from industry professionals.
Friday night (Fri, Feb 7th) kicks off Playback’s first event! Student film submissions will be selected to be premiered for a screening, along with an interactive commentary with the Directors and Producers. There will be an exclusive Demo to directly engage with the industry’s current cameras, lenses, and lights throughout the night. The summit will also host 2 talks: a discussion a Cinematographer of leveraging positions in the Chicago film industry as a camera crew and a panel with Senior Director/Producer about infiltrating the industry. But most importantly, Playback is accommodating a networking platform for all student filmmakers in Chicago with food and refreshments.
Day 2 of Playback (Sat, Feb 8th) will open with a “meet & greet”, where attendees can learn about the 10 selected projects and connect with the filmmakers pitching them. This provides the opportunity for filmmakers to recruit crew members, and for attendees to discover projects they are interested in working on. During the main event, “The Pitch”, the 10 selected projects will be pitched to a panel of jurors as well as the public. The event will conclude with the announcement of the “Audience Award” and the “Jury Award” where winning projects will each take home a prize package valued up to $2000.
Playback’s goal is to create an environment to educate and unite future filmmakers from different schools to encourage collaborations.
Students are encouraged to participate in the summit by submitting their own films or attending the events! Completed works can be submitted to be screened during the event while upcoming projects can be submitted for the pitch competition! Both have a chance of winning prize packages totaling up to $2000!
