Yasmin Spiro: Edge of Time

@ FLXST Contemporary

2251 S Michigan Ave, Suite 220, Chicago IL 60616

Opening Saturday, January 25th, from 5:30PM - 8PM

On view through Sunday, March 1st

You are invited to celebrate the opening reception of Yasmin Spiro’s solo-show “Edge of Time” at FLXST Contemporary on January 25, 2020, 5:30-8pm. With the recent successful completion of the prestigious Kohler Arts and Industry Residency through the John Michael Kohler Art Center, Spiro will be presenting a series of new sculptures and installations.

The body of work centers concepts of the feminine in architecture and utopian theories that touch on social structure, feminism, spirituality and the body in relation to community. The pieces inhabit Caribbean and postcolonial ideas of utopian society through references to housing developments, urban planning, and infrastructure in Jamaica. Spiro’s studio practice pulls in various aspects of personal and cultural history to build stories within the work—layered with conceptual research, material experimentation, and the development of new techniques and ways of creating. Through color and form, Spiro also examines expectations of the feminine and gender within these defining frameworks.

Refreshments will be served. Street parking is available. The gallery is on the second floor, Suite 220 (to be let in, please select the gallery’s name on the intercom). There are stairs and an elevator to reach the second floor.
