After Hours, a journal of Chicago writing and art, has been publishing for almost twenty years. Now in 2019 for the first time the magazine is hosting a monthly open mic for poets in Chicago and the surrounding area. The point of this open mic is to hear all Chicago’s voices. Contributors to the magazine, veterans of the art, beginners, students, and anyone interested in just listening are welcomed to join the conversation. This is a space oriented around friends sharing poetry. Each month the event will provide a safe, comfortable space and opportunity for poets to perform their work aloud in front of an audience, the way poetry has been enjoyed by both writer and listener for millennia.
