Farah Salem: Mirage
@ Amazigh Contemporary
4 E Erie St, Chicago, IL 60611
Opening Sunday, October 20th, from 5PM - 8PM
It is with great excitement that we invite you to attend Farah Salem’s exhibition and performance Mirage on October 20, 2019, between 5 and 8 p.m. at Amazigh Contemporary. The performance starts at 6.30 p.m. Please register via www.amazighcontemporary.com to attend this exhibition and performance.
Farah Salem’s exhibition and performance at Amazigh Contemporary responds to the host apartment, challenging the space and its presumed social actions and norms through the re-enactment and modification of one of the artist’s childhood games. Farah is a Chicago-based artist, activist and art therapist from Kuwait. Her practice encompasses photography, video, performance, fiber art, and installation. Farah’s work relates questions around socio-cultural normativity to the gendered nature of trauma, as it is embedded within her experiences as an Arab woman. She employs various cultural symbols in her work to explore how access, agency and power shape identity, particularly in situations of displacement and diaspora.
