Full Spectrum Features developed four distinct themed movie nights to highlight producers, writers, directors and actors with ties to Chicago on select Monday evenings. Each screening features underrepresented, up-and-coming Chicago filmmakers and highlights themes not typically seen on the big screen. See below for the full schedule.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and the film begins at 7 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring carry-out food from Gallagher Way restaurants, such as Big Star tacos or West Town Bakery cakeballs. No outside alcoholic beverages are permitted. Beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages, candy, popcorn and other snacks are for sale in the park. Guests are welcome to bring blankets if they prefer to lay on the grass.

PALENQUE directed by Sebastian Pinzon Silva

This film is an ode to a small town that has greatly contributed to the collective memory of Colombia: San Basilio de Palenque, the first town in the Americas to have broken free from European domination.

LA BIENVENIDA directed by Raquel Zaldivar

Roberto Carlos Zaldivar left Cuba on January 21, 1962, as part of a mass exodus of unaccompanied minors that fled the island to the United States. It has been over half a century, and Zaldivar has never gone back. This short documentary by his daughter, Raquel, documents his homecoming to the city where he was born and raised. It’s a story from two lenses: that of someone whose life was forever changed by abruptly having to leave his home, and that of someone who has spent her whole life wondering about a mysterious place she has never known.

Roberto Carlos Zaldivar se fue de Cuba hacia los Estados Unidos el 21 de enero de 1962 como parte de un éxodo masivo de niños sin acompañante que se llegó a conocer como la Operación Pedro Pan. Ha pasado más de medio siglo desde aquel momento. En este documental su hija Raquel relata su regreso a la ciudad donde nació y se crió.

En su tiempo, Eddie Nieves fue el meteorólogo más exitoso de Puerto Rico. Luego de ser despedido debido a una situación bochornosa, su carrera y relación con su hijo se vienen abajo. Intentando reinventarse, Eddie lanza una marca de gel para cabello de hombre llamada Galán. Una cineasta lo sigue y documenta su nueva empresa.

y/our home is centered on the struggle endured by an individual when his parents bestow upon him the gift of the family home. Decades of neglect quickly reveal this gift to be an unfathomable burden. Our protagonist is split between loyalty to his family and making a life of his own with his partner.

y/our home relata las dificultades que un hombre enfrenta al recibir como herencia de sus padres la casa en la que ellos vivían. El regalo termina siendo una enorme carga tras décadas de descuido. Nuestro protagonista se verá dividido entre la lealtad hacia su familia y el construir una vida propia con su pareja.
