It’s been 100 days since city council elections, and to celebrate the Public Newsroom will be hosting a series of workshops all August on alderperson accountability. The series will be tackling two questions in wards around the city: What has your alderperson been up to since taking office? How do can we hold city council accountable in between elections?

We’ve co-designed activities with Chicago United for Equity and powered by work from City Bureau’s Documenters program (www.documenters.org) to walk attendees through these questions. We’ll unpack what committees your alderperson is on as well as budget spending, service delivery and development in your ward.

This week we’ll be in the 20th Ward, where Jeanette Taylor was elected during an April 2nd runoff and took office in May. Read more about her election here: https://blockclubchicago.org/2019/04/02/20th-ward-shell-jeanette-taylor-nicole-johnson-cochran/.

Please note you can still attend and participate in the event even if you don’t live in the ward.

Can’t make a workshop? We’ll be sharing the accountability activities for download on our website and publishing them in Austin Weekly News. Sign up for City Bureau’s Chicago newsletter to find out more: https://www.citybureau.org/newsletter.

City Bureau’s #PublicNewsroom is a series of free, weekly workshops and discussions aimed at building trust between journalists and the communities they serve while shaping a more inclusive newsroom.
