Fire Alert
Organized by Tk Suh
Jenn Smith, Morgan Mandalay, Nora Chin, and Tk Suh
08/09 – 08/30/2019
The group exhibition, Fire Alert, serves to highlight how fire exists around us. Paintings and ceramic works from each artist depict fire reflecting on their personal and social events so as to unfold two strong aspects of fire: destructiveness and significance.
Artists- Morgan Mandalay and Jenn Smith- portray fire to express their apocalyptic visions in reference to Eden and The Rapture, which is from The Book of Revelation. Nora Chin’s ceramic works underline the commerciality of fire through the use of aesthetic flame decals in applications ranging from cars to stickers in the early 2000s, and lastly, Tk Suh’s triptych paintings commemorate the recent conflagrations that happened in California, United States, Sokcho, South Korea, and Notre Dame Cathedral, France.
