Our city officials make big decisions during public meetings every day—but the vast majority receive no media coverage and produce minimal records. Interested in learning how to keep tabs? Join us at Legler Library on Tuesday, August 20, from 5-7pm.

This two-hour workshop will introduce you to the Documenters community through an overview of Chicago’s civic landscape. Join us to participate in skill-based exercises designed to help you source verifiable information, fact-check your work and understand your rights through Open Meetings law. These are core skills that can be used on a range of paid Documenter assignments.

CAPACITY for this training is 25 participants—create an account and register for this training at Documenters.org. At the training, you’ll log in to your account to receive credit, so bring a device and log-in information if possible. A limited number of drop-in spots will be available.

This training is designed for new Documenters, but enrolled Documenters at any level of involvement can use the training to brush up on old skills or get re-acquainted with the Documenters community.

ABOUT CITY BUREAU & DOCUMENTERS
Documenters are citizens and civic actors; creators and collaborators; representing a broad base of intergenerational, diverse communities. City Bureau recruits, trains and pays this group of highly engaged citizens to participate in the newsgathering process and contribute to a communal pool of knowledge.

Together we’re democratizing news & information at the local level. To learn more and sign up to be a Documenter, visit Documenters.org
