Second Annual Back Alley Jazz
@
7300 Block of S Paxton Ave
Opening Saturday, July 27th, from 12PM - 8PM
Back Alley Jazz 2019 is scheduled to take place Saturday, July 27 from noon-8pm on the 7300 block of S. Paxton in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. This community-led event is a continuation of the inaugural 2018 Back Alley Jazz event, which was conceived by artists Fo Wilson and Norman Teague and produced in partnership with the Hyde Park Jazz Festival, the Hyde Park Art Center, and South Shore residents.
Following a very long tradition of neighborhood-level DIY organizing, in 2019 residents of S. Paxton are taking the lead in producing the second annual Back Alley Jazz event and keeping the momentum going as we continue efforts to raise funds for larger initiatives in 2020 and 2021 (and beyond!).
This year’s event will focus on the original DJ jam sessions, and will include some of the original DJ’s from the Jazz in the Alley events of the 1960s and 70s. DJ’s will perform sets from front yards along S. Paxton, complemented by several live performances by local musicians.
We will once again have interactive art activities, food for sale from local vendors, and a picnic area where neighbors can gather and enjoy the performances, food, and each other.
Back Alley Jazz 2019 is supported in part by the Joyce Foundation and by the The Chicago Fund for Safe and Peaceful Communities made possibly by Partnership for Safe and Peaceful Communities.
