My Pressure Suit: A Presentation and Dialogue With Dark Matter
@ Hyde Park Art Center
5020 S Cornell Ave, Chicago, IL 60615
Opening Monday, July 8th, from 6PM - 7:30PM
SHORT PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Likening the feeling of marginalization and othering in a Black femme body to being adrift in outer-space, Kamilah Rashied’s autobiographical work, My Pressure Suit, examines through prose, poetry and short stories, what it means to carve out a space where one can fully appear despite the mechanisms of erasure. In its ninth iteration of public presentation, this ongoing “program in progress” lives in conversation with the aspiration for transcendence and healing inherent in the Dark Matter exhibition.
