BOY, BYE: Collaborative on-site collage with Kelly Kristin Jones
@ Christopher Columbus Monument in Arrigo Park
801 S Loomis St, Chicago, IL 60607
Opening Thursday, July 25th, from 6PM - 8PM
In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue… pillaged the land he found, enslaved the people he encountered and orchestrated mass genocide. Join our July Artist in Residence Kelly Kristin Jones at the contested Christopher Columbus monument in Arrigo Park to perform a variety of photographic exercises to heal the landscape. Participants will have the opportunity to create a custom “dodging tool” and collaborate with Kelly to perform an in-camera collage on-site.
Attendees are encouraged to participate! Due to space, light and time restraints, a maximum of 15 people will be able to participate in the activity, but all are encouraged to attend.
Kelly Kristin Jones uses her photo-based installation work as a vehicle to explore competing narratives within urban cultural landscapes. She received an MFA in Photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and served as a Post-MFA Faculty Fellow at the University of Georgia. Kelly has completed residencies at MASS MoCA, Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Emory University, and ACRE. Her current work with contested US monument sites has been exhibited at museums, galleries, and universities across the US. Kelly is a 2018 – 2019 HATCH Artist Resident at Chicago Art Coalition.
This event will take place at Christopher Columbus Monument in Arrigo Park and is free and open to the public.
