Opening Friday, November 16th, from 5PM - 9PM

“Loosely Defined” is a series inspired by interviews Lacy Coligan conducted with 14 women across varying life experiences. Allowing for the nuances of the stories themselves to shape the direction of the series, Coligan discovered common human-first themes despite the many differences among the interviewees. Seeking out the stories of those in her community, and bringing a visual voice to their emotions, she facilitates the conversation around the importance of diversity, tolerance and mutual respect.
Heavily influenced by her background in graphic design, Coligan uses bold shapes alongside fine details to encompass the complexities of emotion. Often abstract beginnings evolve into recognizable figures on their own. She refers to it as Unintentionalism—a process of art focused on energy release and the search for calm. “The journey of creating is the experience I constantly seek, the art is simply the byproduct”
Coligan’s larger body of work is permanently displayed at Agave Studio in Humboldt Park, where she shares this latest series on November 16th, 2018.
Live music by The Chicago based group The Menards will accompany the evening.
