Dangerous Women: The International Women’s Peace Movement Then and Now

Join Jane Addams Hull-House Museum and the University of Illinois at Chicago Honors College for a vibrant and inspiring conversation about courageous women who powerfully opposed war and state violence and hear from current activists who continue to stand up against sexism, racism and civil and human rights violations. A roundtable discussion will highlight the Women’s Peace movement during Jane Addams’s era and her anti-war efforts, the founding of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) and explore current actions and the contemporary women’s movement.
Speakers include historians and activists: Rima Lunin Schultz, historian and author; Beth Ann McGowan, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom; Natasha Erskine, Veterans for Peace; Byul Yoon, Korean Education and Exposure Program; and Monica Trinidad, For the People Artists Collective.
This roundtable is in commemoration of the centenary of the end of World War I and part of the interdisciplinary series, The War That Made Today, co-sponsored by: UIC Honors College, The Institute for the Humanities, Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, School of Theatre and Music, Department of History, College of Nursing, School of Art and Art History, Army ROTC, Student Veteran Affairs Office, Office of International Affairs, and The Richard J.
