ffice Hours: Portfolio Review is an opportunity for artists to meet with Chicago-based curators and cultural producers. One-on-one portfolio reviews last 30 minutes and provide a platform to discuss a range of issues of interest to working artists, including:
-Feedback on artwork
-Preparing for exhibitions
-Pursuing professional opportunities
-And more!
Please note that space is very limited & advance registration is required. Office Hours appointments are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be contacted with an additional form to complete in order to indicate your reviewer preference following the registration process.
Learning Objectives:
-Insightful, professional perspective on creative portfolio.
-How to research opportunities and assess their applicability to one’s aspirations.
-Logistics of the review process and preparation for studio visits and/or exhibitions.

Portfolio Reviewers
Elijah McKinnon is a marketing maven, cultural producer, and artivist. In addition to serving as the Founder and Director of People Who Care — an independent consultancy that works exclusively with nonprofits and grassroots initiatives such as AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Northwestern University, The Andy Warhol Foundation, Grindr for Equality, Raúl Anguiano Art Museum, Center for Disease Control and many more — they are also deeply involved in queer, creative and philanthropic communities around the world.
They are constantly moving and shaking in an attempt to build meaningful relationships and encourage resource sharing. In addition to their professional and artistic credits, Elijah co-produced and starred in Chicago’s #PrEP4Love campaign; is the Co-Director/Founder of Reunion Chicago, a gallery and project incubator prioritized for queer, femmes and people of color located in Humboldt Park; is the Head of Marketing and Design for Open TV – Beta, a web platform for queer, trans and POC; and is the current curator in residence at Estudio Teorema, a cultural activist gallery and production studio in Guadalajara, Mexico. In 2016 Elijah was named “Top 30 Under 30 LGBT People” in Chicago, Illinois by the Windy City Times and was invited to the first annual African-American LGBTQ Education Summit at The White House.

Sharmyn Cruz Rivera is a curator based in Chicago, IL. Her interest and research depart from meditations on human geography, radical manifestations of identity, and methodologies of collaboration. She is Associate Curator at The Green Lantern Press based at Sector 2337 and Sales Assistant at Volume Gallery. Cruz Rivera holds an MA in Arts Administration and Policy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a dual BA in Art History and Modern Languages from the University of Puerto Rico. Recent projects include Fiction Within at Chicago Artists’ Coalition (Chicago, IL), Between the Sky and the Earth at Roots and Culture (Chicago, IL), and Corrosive Like Salt Water at Glass Curtain Gallery in Columbia College Chicago. She was the recipient of the 2017 Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation Curatorial Fellowship.
A Chicago native with a childhood steeped in performing and visual arts training, Sadie Woods has had an exciting career as an award winning artist, curator, and dj. Showcasing her talents everywhere from academia to nightclubs, her practice includes sonic art, sound design, deejay performance, exhibition making, and collaborations within communities of difference. She is most known for her immersive multimedia performances and sound installations, exploring cultural memory and engaging in social and political spheres. Sadie is currently a Lecturer at the School of the Art Institute Chicago.
