Opening Saturday, August 11th, from 12PM - 2PM
Stomping Grounds Open Stage is a free monthly event for young artists to develop performance, curation, exhibition, and production skills while connecting to Chicago’s rich creative community. Stomping Grounds, hosted by Free Write Arts & Literacy in collaboration with Kuumba Lynx and Elephant Rebellion, takes place inside the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (CCJTDC) and in the community at Chicago Art Department and AMFM Gallery.
This month’s Stomping Grounds inside the CCJTDC will feature artwork, performances, and production support by detained young artists from Free Write and SkyART. It will be a celebration of the work both organizations have been doing in collaboration with Illinois Humanities Envisioning Justice Initiative.
Feature performance and workshop led by Sam “Trump” Harris is a multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter from Houston, TX, and has been a student of music from first picking up the trumpet at age 7. Since moving to Chicago in 2009 to obtain his fine arts degree in music, he has become heavily involved in Chicago’s live music scene, and is widely known as a band leader, sideman, mentor, & curator. Wherever he is, Sam Trump is known for creating a vibe that is best described as sophisticated & soulful.
