POWER Project: Time Salon – Gift Economies of Scale
@ Comfort Station Logan Square
2579 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Opening Monday, June 4th, from 5PM - 7PM
This event is part of the Time Salon series. The Time Salon is a facilitated gathering offered by The Kola Nut Collaborative which guides participants through dialogue and practice in communal asset mapping, social economy, and non-monetary exchange. In this intentional space, we challenge the idea that participation in a framework of economic exchange necessitates the use of the dollar as currency.

Theme: Gift Economies of Scale: Readings and Reflections on Lewis Hyde’s “The Gift”
In “The Gift”, Lewis Hyde mines the history gift, social, and tribal economies as a method for understanding how the artistic creation is not a quantifiable commodity. “The Gift” provides us with a way to understand indigenous economic frameworks and the elements that remain in our modern informal and social economies.
In this Time Salon, select passages from “The Gift” will be employed a springboard for discussion on ways that we can disrupt our existing practice and understanding of economics in favor of more just and holistic methods of exchange.
